CDC seeks exceptional candidates for a permanent position as Deputy Branch Chief in the Detection and Response Branch (DRB), Division of HIV Prevention (DHP), National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP).
DRB’s work focuses on detecting and responding to HIV clusters and outbreaks, a priority activity of the Division of HIV Prevention and one of four pillars of the federal Ending the HIV Epidemic in the U.S. Initiative. This position, in the Office of the Chief in DRB, will provide leadership and guidance to coordinate all financial (intramural and extramural) activities, personnel actions, and administrative operations of the branch.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as a leading authority and integrate knowledge and experience of public health programs and policies to provide guidance on cross cutting procedural and multilayered and multifaceted policy issues to other components of the agency and other governmental agencies.
- Provide branch leadership with recommendations to improve and/or overcome shortfalls and deficiencies and formulate alternate courses of action for the solution of complex cross cutting issues.
- Serve as a special projects officer and conduct comprehensive research, review, and analyses on a wide variety of public health-related management programs to provide a wide variety of complex staff papers that address complex multi-functional issues.
- Build and foster relationships with internal and external partners to support branch and division programs and projects.
- Provide support and guidance to the Branch Chief, representing the Branch Chief in senior leadership meetings and in meetings with external partners as appropriate.
- Assist in a variety of management activities to strengthen the branch’s organizational impact, efficiency, and effectiveness.
- Oversee all branch-related administrative functions including management of the intramural and extramural branch budget, procurement, personnel actions, and standard operating procedures.
- Prepare policy documents, briefings, reports, summaries, responses to requests for information, and other substantive documents.
- Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set, and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work, when necessary.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be current federal employees with specialized experience in planning, formulating, analyzing, evaluating and/or implementing program policies for public health programs.
Additional Information:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service. In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description.
